I started to learn to Wavedash sometime around February. It's hellishly difficult to get right at first, but eventually you really learn to do it. The more you use it, the more useful you'll find it. I almost pity people who shrug it off, thinking that it's useless. The more you analyze it in terms of its faults, the less you'll use it, and the fewer gains you'll recieve from it. It's really a shame. I love to Wavedash as Samus. She's an excellent wavedasher. No kidding. I tend to face Link opponents very often. Most of them use Spin attacks or Downthrusts against me. If someone is downthrusting toward you, instead of rolling out of the way, you Wavedash backwards out of the way, (Quite possible, I assure you.) and Smash right when they land. They're very vulnerable when coming out of the downthrust, but you're not, considering that you wavedashed backwards instead of rolling away. The wavedash leaves you almost immediately available to attack.

Well quite simply, I SUCK at wavedashing. I can, only sometimes, wavedash with Luigi who I suck as anyway so it doesn't really help.

How exactly do you enact this "wavedash?" Wavedashing: The name of a certain unorthodox movement technique. It is done by jumping and then immediately air dodging toward the ground diagonally so that your character will slide along the ground. It can be done by holding the joystick down and forward (or backwards) and then pressing X~R~X~R~X~R quickly. X to jump, R to air dodge. You need to test with your character to find the exact timing. While wavedashing, you go as fast or faster than a normal dash, can attack with any attack out of your dash, and can switch directions very quickly. As good as this sounds, it's not THAT useful to most people. Luigi's is the easiest to see because he slides so well. Taken from smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=42749
